SONG OF THE DAY

Smashing Pumpkins " Tonight,Tonight"

The best way to start writing a song

Sometimes the hardest part about writing a song is just "starting" to write the song. Where should you begin? Well actually, there is no one approach. Some prefer to start with the "hook" or title of the song, others think of a concept and start with a verse, while some find it easier to start humming a melody and taking it from there. Again, you have to find the way that works best for you. And it may not be the same way everytime, but try them all. Ultimately you must remember, the more you do it, the easier it will become! So the best way to start writing a song is just to START!

Songwriter/Singers- Make sure your VOCALS are the best they can be...

Ok, so you've written this INCREDIBLE song, now you need to get it recorded(demo) . Unfortunately, if you're like me, your voice may not do a whole lot of justice for your song. Maybe you have an artist who will record for you. If so, great! If not, maybe you should consider getting vocal lessons. If that's not quite in your budget, cause the costs can really add up over a period of time, consider investing in a vocal coaching program that you can use at home on your computer . They can be really effective and definitely worth the investment.

So what does it take to be a succesful songwriter?

1. Passion; you have to WANT it.
2. Patience; be willing to stick with it even if it doesn't happen overnight. (because it won't)
3. Practice; VERY IMPORTANT. Write, write, Write... It's the only way to be one of the best songwriters out there. Even after you make it, it's important to constantly find ways to improve. Make an effort to write SOMETHING everyday, even if it's just a hook or half of a verse. Use all resources available to you. Read books, attend seminars and conferences if you can, network. Try to surround yourself with those people who are where you wanna be. Make sure you work at it EVERYDAY.
This is your dream...make it your REALITY!!!!
